You will then see something similar to this on
the screen:
xxxxx bytes total disk space
xxxxx bytes used by system
xxxxx bytes available on disk
Format another
(Y/N)?_
Type n to end the FORMAT command.
Type
y
to format another blank disk.
You do not have
to press the Enter key.
If
you press n , you see the MS-DOS prompt A>
and you can remove your formatted disk.

In step (2) you type
format
without
IS
and press
the ENTER key.
Doing so does not copy the
MS-DOS
system
files
to
your
disk
and
the
message System transferred does not appear on
the screen.
Normally you include
IS
when you are formatting
disk that will contain program files (as opposed
to data files).
