Chapter 1: Introduction to AERO.ASI

The Linear Acoustic AERO.ASI Transport Stream Audio Processor is a state-of-the-art, adaptive,
multiband, broadcast audio/loudness controller. The AERO.ASI can apply loudness control and up-
mixing to up to four individual AC-3 PIDs in an applied DVB-ASI transport stream signal. Compen-
sating delay is inserted to keep all elements properly timed.
The resulting audio is consistent, compliant, and appropriately dynamic - satisfying consumers and reg-
ulators alike.
The AERO.ASI can contain up to four instances, one for each PID. Each instance can have one of
these program configurations, or Instance Styles:
Instance Style 1: 5.1+2+Local – Includes LtRt/LoRo downmix output
- OR -
Instance Style 1: 2+2+Local – Includes 5.1 channel input downmix
Each instance also contains:
Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoder
Dolby Digital (AC-3) Encoder (5.1 or stereo)
An optionally:
Nielsen® audience measurement encoder for each PID
The AERO.ASI includes the following features:
AEROMAX® multiband loudness processing complies with ATSC, ITU and EBU
Includes Input AGC, parametric EQ, multiband AGC and limiting, look-ahead peak limiting,
and selectable multiband source noise reduction
ITU-R BS.1770-3 meter with logging for each output program
Selectable upmixers utilize industry-standard UPMAX® II algorithm
DVB-ASI I/O for up to four AC-3 PIDs
Dual, redundant, auto-ranging power supplies
8 channels of AES input via four AES3-ID BNC connectors
Compensating DVB-ASI delay
Relay bypass of all critical signals
