GENERAL

For additional information pertaining to the vehicle
cooling system, refer to the appropriate VEHICLE
SHOP MANUAL.
Check general condition of hoses and clamp tight-
ness.
Check the leak indicator hole if there is oil or
coolant.
1. Weep hole
NOTE: Flowing coolant indicates a damaged ro-
tary seal. Oil out of the leak indicator hole indi-
cates a non working oil seal.

1. Coolant pump

Section 01 ENGINES (1503 4-TEC)
Removal
Supercharged Engines
Remove supercharger inlet and outlet hoses to
make room.
1. Supercharger
2. Inlet hose
3. Outlet hose
All Engines
Drain cooling system and engine oil, refer to ap-
propriate VEHICLE SHOP MANUAL.
Remove from housing:
– ride plate inlet and outlet hoses
– cylinder head outlet hose no. 1
– oil cooler inlet hose no. 2
– oil cooler outlet hose no. 3
– screws no. 4 and no. 5 retaining coolant pump
housing no. 6
– coolant pump housing no. 6.
Inspection
Check if gasket no. 7 is brittle, hard or damaged
and replace as necessary.
