• Use any documentation that comes with the M.2 storage module and follow those instructions in addition
to the instructions in this topic.
• Depending on the model, your server might look slightly different from the illustration in this topic.
To install the M.2 storage module, do the following:
1. Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to
the server.
2. Prepare your server. See "Removing or extending the server from the rack cabinet" on page 69.
3. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 69.
4. Remove the riser card assembly 2. See "Replacing the riser card" on page 85.
5. Locate the three plastic pins on the system board for securing the M.2 storage module. Remove any
parts and disconnect any cables that might impede your access to the three plastic pins.
6. Touch the static-protective package that contains the M.2 storage module to any unpainted surface on
the outside of the server. Then, take the M.2 storage module out of the package.
Note: Carefully handle the M.2 storage module by its edges.
7. Install the M.2 storage drive into the drive slot on the M.2 storage module. Pivot the latch
to an appropriate position. Then, install the screw to secure the M.2 storage drive.
