5.2 Reading a Document in Flatbed Mode

5.2.1 Reading a standard-size document

This section explains how to read a document placed on the document
bed.
If the size of the document is smaller than the document bed, read the
document using the following procedure:
1 Open the document cover.
2 Place the document face down on the document board. Correct
any curled or folded parts of the document.

Position the long side (in landscape mode) or the short side (in
portrait mode) of the document to the left side of the document
bed.
4 Position the left top of the document to the reference mark. If the
document is not placed correctly, reading cannot be done cor-
rectly.

Close the document cover slowly. If the document cover is
closed too quickly, the document may move.
6 Start the read operation. Do not press on or open the document
cover during the read operation.

After reading, open the document cover to remove the document.
