Glossary–8 6400 Line Matrix Printers Setup Guide, Cabinet and Pedestal Models
Liquid–crystal display. The LCD is located on the operator panel.
Its purpose is to communicate information to the operator
concerning the operating state of the printer.
Light Emitting Diode. The printer operator panel has LEDs that
indicate the state of the printer to the operator.
The parameters that specify data transfer, control, or
communication operations.
Abbrev. for lines per inch. A measurement indicating the vertical
spacing between successive lines of text. For example, 8 lpi
means eight lines of text for every vertical inch.
Abbrev. for lines per minute. A measurement of the print speed of
a line printer printing in text print mode.
M
See font, monospaced.
Millimeter.
Maximum Page Length. Also known as forms length. The
number of lines that can be printed on a page.
Maximum Print Position. Also known as line length. (See also
PMPP.)
N
Negative acknowledge. Not acknowledged.
Not available or not applicable.
New Line (3287 only).
Abbrev. for near letter quality font. This is the highest resolution
mode supported on the 6400.
Offline. The printer is not ready to receive and process commands
and data.
