3. Starter motor
8 Connect the positive battery terminal 1
and starter motor lead 2 with a jumper
lead3.

8 8 8 8 8 A wire that is used as a jumper lead must
have at least the same capacity or more
as that of the battery
the jumper lead may burn.
8 8 8 8 8 This check is likely to produce sparks,
therefore make sure nothing flammable
is in the vicinity.
8 Does the starter motor turn?
YES

Repair or replace the
starter motor.

4. Starter relay
8 Disconnect the starter relay coupler from
the coupler.
8 Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 1) and
battery (12 V) to the starter relay cou-
pler as shown.

8 Does the starter relay have continuity
between red3 and red 4?
YES

5. Main switch
8 Check the main switch for continuity.
Refer to "CHECKING THE SWITCHES".
8 Is the main switch OK?
YES
