Connecting USB Peripherals

The motherboard has two Universal Serial Bus ports.
You can connect USB devices to either the USB
ports directly or to either a bus-powered or self-
powered USB hub which provides more ports. The
bus provides limited power. A powered hub in-
creases the number of powered devices you can con-
nect to the bus. Some USB devices may also have
their own power source. USB devices are "hot swap-
pable" which means you don't have to turn the com-
puter off before connecting or disconnecting a USB
device. The USB specification supports up to 127
devices.
USB is an interface for peripherals that use a rela-
tively low data transfer speed, such as USB key-
boards, pointing devices, scanners, printers, modems
and other telephony devices and game devices. USB
also supports MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 digital video. It
has a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits per second,
which is equivalent to 1.5MB per second. To use the
USB feature, the computer must use an Operating
System that supports it. For example, all versions of
Microsoft Windows from Windows 95 OSR2 and
later support USB. Earlier versions of Windows do
not support USB.
