7.2. Renewing the motor oil
Change the oil when the engine is still warm, to ensure that drainage is rapid and complete.
Remove the filling plug-gauge (no. 1, diag. G) and the drain plug (no. 2, diag. G) and drain the oil into a suitable container.
On completion, screw up again and tighten the drain plug (no. 2, diag. G).
Fill the engine oil sump with the recommended oil, then check the level.
Put in place and tighten the filling plug-gauge (no. 1, diag. G).
Check that there is no oil leak after filling.
Wipe off any trace of oil with a clean cloth.
7.3. Cleaning the fuel filter
Fuel is a highly flammable substance which may combust in certain conditions. Do not smoke or bring naked
flames or sparks near to it.
After refitting the filter, check that there are no leaks and that the area is dry before starting up the generating set.
Danger
Switch off the fuel tap (no. 14, diag. A).
Remove drain screw (No. 1, diag. C) from the carburettor, and position a suitable container underneath the carburettor.
Open fuel tap (No. 14, diag. A) so that the contents of the tank are emptied into the container. Refit and retighten carburettor
drain screw (No. 1, diag. C) when empty.
Remove retaining circlip (No. 1, diag. E) from the fuel supply pipes (No. 2, diag. E) on the tap (No. 3, diag. E), and disconnect
the pipes.
Remove the fuel tap complete with its filter.
Remove then clean the filter (No.1 diag. D) around the low pressure air jet.
Refit filter (No. 1 diag. D) to the fuel tap (No. 2 diag. D) then refit and tighten the fuel tap.
Refit the fuel pipes and make sure that they are held in place by circlip (No. 1, diag. E).
Add a little fuel to the tank and open the tap to check for leaks.
7.4. Checking the spark plug
Undo both 10 mm studs mounting the fuel tank on to the side plate, air filter side.
Undo the four 10 mm bolts mounting the side plate air filter side on to the frame, and remove the side plate in order to access the
spark plug.
Remove the spark plug cap and use a spark plug spanner to remove the spark plug.
Visually inspect the spark plug and discard it if the electrodes are worn or if the insulation is split or chipped. If they are to be re-
used, clean the spark plugs with a metallic brush.
Measure the electrode gap with a feeler gauge. The electrode gap should be from 0.70 to 0.80 mm. Check that the spark plug
washer is in good condition and screw the spark plug in by hand, in order to avoid damaging the threads.
After fitting the spark plug, tighten it with a spark plug spanner to secure the washer.
Note: when fitting a new spark plug, tighten it by 1/2 turn when in position, in order to compress the washer. When fitting an old
spark plug, tighten it by a 1/8 –1/4 turn when in position, in order to compress the washer.
Refit the side plate and the fuel tank mountings.
7.5. Cleaning the spark arrester
Undo bolt (No. 1, diag I) and remove spark arrester (No. 2, diag I).
Using a wire brush, remove the carbon deposits from the spark arrester screen.
Note: The spark arrester should have no holes or cracks. Replace if necessary.
Refit spark arrester (No. 2, diag I), and fit it with bolt (No. 1, diag I).
7.6. Checking bolts, nuts and screws
Daily, detailed checks of all nuts, bolts and screws are essential in order to prevent any accidents or breakdowns.
Inspect the generating set as a whole before and after each use.
Tighten any loose nuts or screws.
NB: the tightening of cylinder head bolts should be carried out by a specialist. Contact your local agent.
