Open type SWC circuits will not have any resistance value unless a button on the
steering wheel is pressed. Open/Closed combination SWC type circuits will have
a resistance value (500 Ohms ~ 10k-Ohms) when you connect the multi-meter
(No buttons pressed). Other resistance values will register as you press the
buttons on the steering wheel.
Note: Set your multi-meter to measure resistance (10k ~ 20kOhms range) when
checking the vehicle SWC wires.
Due to increased OE SWC functions/features/complexity, all vehicles/functions
may not be supported. In cases such as these, a third-party adapter can be used
for a broader range of vehicle/function support.
For CAN Bus vehicles, a separate third-party adapter is still required. The output
of the SWC CAN Bus adapter will need to be programmed to the VX Series head
unit SWC interface.
Remember to program the head unit SWC interface for ONLY the functions that
are supported by the third-party adapter. All other functions in the head unit
SWC Menu should be set to N/A or Undefined.
Notes
1. When using third-party adapters, the adapter must be programmed to the
vehicle, and then the head unit must be programmed to the third-party adapter.
2. Do not use additional resistors on the SWC A or SWC B wires. The built-in SWC
interface is not configured to support additional external resistances attached to
these wires.
