2004.5 Spectra Technology
SUMMARY
The 2004.5 Spectra uses a Supplemental Restraint
System (SRS) designed to deploy selected airbags. Its
SRS Control Module (SRSCM) has internal and external
sensors to determine whether to deploy one or more
airbags. Both driver and front passenger airbags are dual
squib inflator design, which will deploy airbags in stages
depending on the severity and velocity of the collision.
Another unique SRS feature on this new Spectra is
Occupant Classification System (OCS). The OCS is
designed to monitor for the presence of a properly
seated occupant in the front passenger seat to determine
whether to deploy airbags during an impact event.
Now, you should have a better understanding of the
supplemental restraint system, and its components, on
the Spectra, including its operation, component
locations and diagnostic procedures.
