CHART 7101. TROUBLESHOOTING (ENGINE) (CONT)
Defective battery.
Mixture control in IDLE
CUT-OFF.
Shorted ignition switch or
loose ground.
Incorrect carburetor idle
adjustment.
Incorrect idle mixture.
Leak in the induction
system.
Uneven cylinder compression.
Faulty ignition system.
Open primer.
Improper spark plug set-
ting for altitude.
Insufficient fuel pressure.
Dirty air filter.
Mixture too rich; indicated
by sluggish engine opera-
tion, red exhaust flame (at night)
and black smoke (in extreme
cases.
Mixture too lean; indi-
cated by overheating or
backfiring.
Cause

Remedy
Replace or charge battery.
Open mixture control.
Check and replace or repair.
Adjust throttle stop to ob
tain correct idle.
Adjust mixture. Refer to
engine manufacturer's hand
book for proper procedure.
Tighten all connections in
the induction system. Re-
place any parts that are de-
fective.
Check condition of piston rings
and valve seats.
Check entire ignition system.
Lock primer.
Check spark plug gap.
Adjust fuel pressure.
Clean or replace.
Check primer and readjust
carburetor.
Check fuel lines for dirt or
other restrictions. Check
fuel supply. Readjustment of
carburetor may be indicated.
