Crankshaft journal outside diameter/difference
Measure the crankshaft journal outside diameter in the thrust
and axial directions at two positions as shown.
Check for the followings:
• Difference of the measurements at two positions (Taper)
• Difference between the thrust and axial measurement
(Out-of-round)
 09900-20202: Micrometer
Out-of-round and taper
Service limit: 0.010 mm (0.0004 in)
If measurement exceeds service limit, replace crankshaft.
Crankshaft journal outside diameter:
Standard: 31.989 – 32.000 mm (1.2594 – 1.2598 in)
Crankshaft main bearing condition
If pitting, flaking, burn or excessive wear is found, replace both
upper and lower halves.
Always replace both bearing halves, never replace only one half
of a bearing set.
Crankshaft journal oil clearance
Standard: 0.020 – 0.047 mm (0.0008 – 0.0019 in)
Service limit: 0.060 mm (0.0024 in)
If measurement exceeds service limit, replace crankshaft bear-
ing.
Measure the crankshaft journal oil clearance as follows:
1. Clean surface of the bearing holder (crankcase and cylin-
der), bearing and crankshaft bearing journal.
