Ozone Release Locate the machine in a well ventilated room. A negligible amount of ozone is generated during normal opera- tion of this machine.

    Precautions Installing the machine Install in a well ventilated position. This machine produces ozone during use. The amount of ozone produced is not enough to cause harm, but ensure there is proper ventilation when using the machine in poorly ventilated rooms over long periods, or printing in large amounts.

  • Page 9: Handling Of Consumables

    Handling of consumables Never burn or dispose of the toner cartridge or developing unit in a fire. This could cause any remaining toner to ignite, resulting in a larger fire and/or burns. Toner cartridges should not be opened with force. Leaking toner should not be inhaled. Contact with skin should also be avoided.

    Old machines, batteries, empty toner cartridges, drum units and developing units will be return the local Muratec partner and will be recycled. Machines for consumer usage can be recycled at local recycling stations without any charge. Batteries should not be thrown in the usual waste.

    Preface Main Features This is a digital multifunction peripheral (MFP) that can copy, fax, scan, and print in black and white. As well as full functionality as a fax machine, there are also many other features. Fit the optional network kit to use it as a network printer and scanner to raise the productivity of your workplace.

    Putting documents onto the document glass Open the platen cover. When putting documents onto the document glass, always open the platen cover by at least 20 degrees. The machine may be unable to detect the document size if you open the platen cover by less than 20 de- grees.

    Loading paper in the bypass tray Use the bypass tray to print to paper sizes not loaded in the paper cassettes or to print onto custom paper or postcards. Load paper Open the bypass tray. To load the large-size paper, pull out the extension tray. Push the bypass tray in the middle until it locks into place.

    Replacing Consumables A message prompting replacement appears on the LCD when you are out of toner or when it is time to replace the drum or developing unit. • Toner cartridge The message “Toner is near empty.” appears on the LCD when you are run- ning low on toner.

    Replacing the toner cartridge / waste toner bottle • Never burn or dispose of the toner cartridge or waste toner bottle in a fire. Doing so may cause burns due to scattered toner. • Be careful not to stain the inside of the machine, your hands or clothes with the toner. If your hands get stained, wash them using clean water or a mild cleaning solution.

    Replacing the drum unit After you replace the drum unit, you must set the replacement counter. Please refer to the instruction sheet supplied with a new drum unit. IMPORTANT • Do not directly touch the photoreceptor surface of the drum unit, or expose it to direct sunlight. This could cause defects in printing quality.

    Booklet Copy The optional duplex print unit and document feeder are required for Booklet Copy. This function scans individual pages of a document through the ADF then reorders them and prints them on both sides of the paper.     Next Document If you need to copy a large volume of documents that cannot all fit into the ADF at once, turn “Next Doc” on to divide scanning. You can scan both through the ADF and on the document glass. Press <Menu>.

    Printer Functions Preparations Installing the drivers To print with this machine from your computer, you will need to install a printer driver on your computer. Refer to the Printer/Scanner Driver Guide for instructions on how to install the printer driver. The Printer/Scanner Driver Guide is on the included driver CD.

    Printing from a Computer Open the document you want to print with the application. From the File menu select [Print]. Confirm that the printer driver for this machine is selected. If necessary, open the Properties screen to make further settings. Click [Print] to start printing.

    Cleaning the ADF If the ADF is dirty, black lines could be printed on the copies. Or, something attached to the document feeder roller could cause a document jam. Clean the document feeder roller or separator pad regularly. Carefully wipe with a soft cloth dipped in water and wrung out thoroughly. Then, wipe with a clean dry cloth. Wipe down the whole roller, turning it by hand.
