Using group mode for the first time

The first time you use group mode, you must choose a
nickname and an avatar. An avatar is a coloured icon
which marks your position on the map and makes it
easier for other group members to identify you. On
your device, your own position is shown by an orange
cursor and not by your avatar (see
You can choose an avatar from the avatar gallery or
media gallery or you can take a photo to use as the av-
atar.
In the takwak software, your device is identified by a
unique ID and cannot be changed. Your nickname and
avatar just makes it easier for other group members to
identify you on the map.
If you want to be reachable in group mode via a phone
call or SMS, you should also enter the mobile phone
number of your device. This allows e.g. group mem-
bers to send you an SMS from within the twOutdoor
software. Your phone number is not essential for par-
ticipation in group mode.
