Chapter 1 Hardware Configuration

1.1 Introduction

The AIMB-554 is designed with the Intel® 945GM and the ICH7M-DH
for industrial applications that require both high-performance computing
and enhanced power management capabilities. The motherboard supports
Intel Core™ 2 Duo/Core™ Duo/Core™ Solo Processor up to 2.16GHz
with 533/667 MHz front side bus and DDRII 400/533/667 MHz memory
up to 2 GB.
The AIMB-554 offers high-performance cost-saving integrated graphics,
built on the Intel® 945GM chipset and features the unique Intel®
Extreme Graphics architecture that maximizes VGA performance and
shares system memory up to 224MB. Whenever higher graphics comput-
ing ability is required, the AIMB-554 also provides a mainstream PCIEx-
press x 16 expansion slots to interface add-on graphic cards. Better still,
the AIMB-554 also provides incredible visual quality, versatile display
options, 18-bit Dual Channel LVDS and a TV-out(NTSC/PAL) interface.
In addition to powerful computing capabilities, the AIMB-554 comes
with advanced I/O enhancements. The AIMB-554 possess multiple high
performance onboard I/O capabilities which include one PCI-Express
x16 slot for VGA; one PCI-Express x4 slot; two 32-bit,33-MHz PCI
slots; eight high-speed USB 2.0 ports; two Serial ATA ports supporting
up to two devices with software Serial ATA RAID 0,1; AC-97 audio; two
RS-232 ports; one parallel port; and a floppy disk interface. These power-
ful I/O capabilities ensure even more reliable data storage capabilities and
suitable for work with high-speed I/O peripherals. When accompanied by
Advantech's SNMP-1000 module, the intelligent SNMP/HTTP system
manager, the AIMB-554 permits users to monitor and manage the system
remotely. This is particularly crucial for mission-critical applications.
The AIMB-554 also adopts Advantech's unique patented, "Sleep Mode
Control Circuit," for AT Power Mode. With this thoughtful design, users
need NOT clear the CMOS after the system enters the S3 mode.
