ELECTRICAL
CHARGING & HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT
OPERATION
Function:
To maintain battery voltage between 11.8 and 13.2.
Operating Conditions:
The engine must be running for the charging system to
operate. Headlights are on only when the engine is
running.

Theory of Operation:
The charging system is of the permanent magnet and
stator design. Magnets imbedded into the crankshaft
flywheel pass a multi-pole stator mounted under the
flywheel, inducing alternating current into the stator
coils. Alternating current is routed to the headlamp
bulbs anytime the engine is running through the 451
Yel/Wht wire. One half of the stator output current is
rectified by an in-line diode in the 220 Red/Blk circuit,
and used to charge the battery. Charging output is un-
regulated.
