Installing an Optional SFP Module

To install an optional SFP module in an AT-FS708/POE switch, perform
the following procedure:
Caution
The laser light used by the SFP module is invisible. Standard safety
precautions (e.g. avoid looking directly into a fiber optic port) should
always be observed when installing or maintaining this product.
Caution
The SFP module used with the AT-FS708/POE switch must be in
compliance with IEC/EN 60825-1 and IEC/EN 60825-2; and certified
with TUV or VDE.
Note
A SFP module can be hot-swapped; you do not have to power off a
switch to install it.
1. Unpack the SFP module from its shipping container and store the
packing material in a safe location.
Note
You must use the original shipping material if you need to return the
module to Allied Telesyn.
Warning
A SFP module can be damaged by static electricity. Be sure to
observe all standard electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions,
such as wearing an antistatic wrist strap, to avoid damaging the
module.
Note
For fiber optic cabling specifications, refer to the SFP Installation
Guide provided with the module.
2. Follow these guidelines to ensure proper performance of your SFP
module.
SFP modules are static sensitive. To prevent Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD) damage, follow your normal board and
component handling procedures.
