Engine Oil Level Check

Check the engine oil level with the
engine stopped and the outboard
motor in the vertical position.
1.
Unlock and remove the engine
cover (p.
84
).
2.
Remove the dipstick and wipe it
clean.
OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK
3.
Insert the dipstick all the way in,
then remove it and check the oil
level shown on the dipstick.
OIL FILLER CAP
4.
If the oil level is low, remove the
oil filler cap, and add oil to reach
the upper limit mark shown on the
UPPER
dipstick. Use the oil recommended
LIMIT
on p.
88
.
LOWER
LIMIT
Running the engine with a low oil
level can cause engine damage.
5.
Install the oil filler cap and tighten
it securely. Do not overtighten.
6.
Install and lock the engine cover.
SERVICING YOUR OUTBOARD MOTOR
Oil filler cap removal (Unlock):
Rid of the alternator

cover

Oil filler cap installation (Lock):
1)

Turn the oil filler cap 90°
counterclockwise so the lug of the
cap sets horizontally.
Pull the cap to remove it.
Insert the oil filler cap into the oil
filler port with the lug being set
horizontally.
Turn the oil filler cap 90°
clockwise so the lug of the cap is
in line with the rib of the alternator
cover. (It should click.)
