Chapter 2. Planning the configuration and installing the
storage subsystem
This chapter contains information about planning the configuration and installing the
storage subsystem.
Before installing the storage subsystem in a rack, use the information in the
following sections to determine the storage subsystem configuration that best meets
your storage requirements.

Storage subsystem management

You can manage the storage subsystem using the direct-management method,
which uses Ethernet connections from a management station to each controller. You
must install at least one management station. A management station can be the
host or a workstation on the Ethernet network. Client software is installed on the
management station. (For more information, see the DS300 and DS400 Software
Installation Guide.) Attach Ethernet cables to each management station (one pair
per storage subsystem). You will connect the cables to each controller later when
you install the storage subsystem. The following illustrations show the
direct-management method.
