IBM TotalStorage DS300 and DS400: Hardware Installation and User's Guide
The DS300 storage subsystem comes with either one or two hot-swap
power-supply-with-fan units. Each unit is a self-contained power supply with
three integral cooling fans, a power switch, and two status LEDs.
If the storage subsystem comes with only one power-supply-with-fan unit,
there is a filler panel in the right power-supply-with-fan unit bay. The filler
panel must remain in place to maintain proper cooling.
Note: If storage subsystem model 1701-1RL has only one
power-supply-with-fan unit installed, both the RAID controller and the
power-supply must be installed in side A.

The DS400 storage subsystem comes with one Fibre Channel RAID
controller. There is a filler panel in the right RAID controller bay (side B).
The filler panel must remain in place to maintain proper cooling. The Fibre
Channel RAID controller has one 1 Gb/sec (gigabit per second) Ethernet
connector for management, two 2 Gb/sec Fibre Channel host ports, and 12
LEDs.
Each RAID controller also contains a battery to maintain cache data in the
event of a power failure. For more information, see "Cache memory and
RAID controller battery" on page 36.
The DS400 storage subsystem contains two hot-swap power-supply-with-
fan units. Each unit is a self-contained power supply with three integral
cooling fans, a power switch, and two status LEDs.
