LAN
(Local Area Network) is a computer network covering a small geographic area, like a home, office, or group of buildings. A home
network is a residential local area network, and is used to connect multiple devices within the home. The simplest home networks are used
to connect two or more PCs for sharing files, printers, and a single connection to the Internet (usually broadband Internet through a cable
or DSL provider).
WAN
(Wide Area Network) is a computer network that covers a broad area. WANs are used to connect LANs and other types of networks
together, so that users and computers in one location can communicate with users and computers in other locations. The wide area
network provides network address translation (NAT), allowing multiple devices such as computers or video phones to share one IP address
and Internet connection. The router can be identified as it almost always has five Ethernet ports on the back. One port is separate from the
four other ports. The largest and most well-known example of a WAN is the Internet.
