Lubrication

an essential step for lubrication is cleaning the
components before lubricating them.
this idea is critical because dust and chips build
up on lubricated components and make the
components hard to move. simply adding more
grease to the components with built-up grime on
them will not yield smooth moving components.
Clean the components in this section with an oil/
grease solvent cleaner.
if you thoroughly clean the components in this
section before lubricating them, the result will
be silky smooth movement when turning the
handwheels, which will result in much higher
enjoyment on your part!
the following are the main components that need
to be lubricated:
trunnion slides and orientation gears
Worm gears, trunnion and Bearing housing
teeth
Trunnion Slides & Orientation Gears
Clean the trunnion slides out with mineral spirits
and a rag, and brush a dollop of lithium grease
into each groove. Move the blade tilt back-and-
forth to spread the grease (see Figure 104).
