SECTION 6: MAINTENANCE

To reduce risk of shock or
accidental startup, always
disconnect machine from
power before adjustments,
maintenance, or service.

Schedule

For optimum performance from your machine,
follow this maintenance schedule and refer to any
specific instructions given in this section.
Daily Check:
Loose mounting bolts.
Damaged saw blade.
Worn or damaged wires.
Any other unsafe condition.
Clean after each use.
Monthly Check:
V-belt tension, damage, or wear.
Lubricate vise screw.
Annual Check:
Lubricate gear box.

Cleaning

Use a brush and a shop vacuum to remove chips
and other debris from the machine. Keep the
non-painted surfaces rust-free with regular appli-
cations of products like G96
SLIPIT
, or Boeshield
®
®
Periodically, remove the blade and thoroughly
clean all metal chips or built-up grease from the
wheel surfaces and blade housing.

Lubrication

Before applying lubricant to any area, wipe the
area clean to avoid contamination. Lubricate the
vice screw shown in Figure 47 with multi-purpose
gear grease.

Once a year, replace the oil in the gear box. Lower
the headstock all the way, then have an assis-
tant help you tilt the bandsaw so the gear box is
level and oil will not spill out when the cover is
removed. Remove the six hex bolts and flat wash-
ers (see Figure 48) to remove the gear box cover.

Use shop rags to absorb and remove the existing
oil, then use mineral spirits to clean the gears and
the inside of the box. Once the gears are dry, add
as much new ISO 320 oil as the gear box will hold
without overflowing, then install the cover.
