Small Room Acoustics
The Problem
Due to the size of typical domestic living spaces, low
frequency sounds constructively and destructively interact
with a room, creating a series of peaks and dips in the
response of a subwoofer. These are position-dependent
and impacted primarily by both the position of the source
(the subwoofer) and the listener. This important variable
needs to be addressed in order to achieve consistently
high performance.
You've probably experienced moving around in a room
while music or a movie is playing and hearing lots of bass
in one spot, but next to none just a few feet away. Equal-
ization is not the answer because, while it can make bass
sound really good in one location, it can't do the same for a
large seating area.
The Solution: Multiple sources
Multiple subwoofers greatly reduce the room's potential
negative impact and optimize the overall smoothness
of response over a wide listening area. This spatial
problem can only be solved in this manner, not through
equalization alone.
For best performance, using two or four woofer modules,
our general subwoofer placement recommendations are
shown in Fig.1. The preferred locations are outlined with
dashed lines.

For maximum output, albeit with increased room
interaction, collocate the modules near a corner of
the room. BGX subwoofer installation height is not critical
but the maximum output of the system can be increased
somewhat by placing the woofer modules near the
corners or close to the wall-floor or wall-ceiling junction.
If you cannot install your subwoofer modules around
these locations, please contact your BG Radia dealer
for recommendations.
In pre-existing construction, especially in non-rectangular
rooms, it can be beneficial to position subwoofer modules
in the room and actually listen before permanently
installing them. Unlike most other in-wall subwoofer
options, this subwoofer does not require any additional
enclosures to work properly and so you can optimize
system performance in the room by experimenting with
different physical placement options.
For cabinet mounting, the BGX-S6B and BGX-S12B sub-
woofer modules are self enclosed and, as such, do NOT
require any special cavity preparation or back box.
