Amplifier Operation
Voltage Selector
1.
- Before connecting power, make sure
that both voltage selector switches show the proper
voltage (115V or 230V) for your location.
Master Power
2.
- Turn on only after all connections are
made and the system is ready to be used. Thereafter,
the amp will be turned on and off by one of the five
trigger methods (see page 15).
3.
Gain / Low Pass
- This switch allows you to either use
the amplifier's own crossover circuits while in the
"variable" mode, or to bypass them to use the surround
processor's bass management while in the "THX" mode.
In most systems, it will be best to set this control to
"THX" and rely on your surround processor to direct the
proper mix of bass frequencies to the subwoofer
system. This also avoids having multiple subwoofer
crossovers interacting and causing unpredictable
performance around the crossover point.

Low Pass
4.
- This knob selects the frequency of the
system's on board crossover (12 dB / octave low
pass filter) and represents the upper -3 dB point of
the subwoofer's frequency response. This is
particularly useful if your BGX subwoofer is being
sent a full-range signal (as would be the case using
a "pre out" from a stereo amplifier or preamp which
does not have a subwoofer out) or in a surround or
multi-channel music system using large speakers and
limited bass management functionality. In these
situations, along with the gain and phase controls,
it allows you to fine-tune the blend between the
subwoofers and the main speakers.
Phase
5.
- the phase control provides frequency
dependant delay. Depending on a number of factors
including the relative positions of the speaker,
subwoofer and (you) the listener, there may be
acoustic cancellation instead of a proper combining of
the speakers and subwoofer at the crossover point
(where their outputs overlap). By repeatedly
adjusting the phase control and evaluating (via
listening or measurement) the transition from speaker
to subwoofer, optimal summation of the subwoofer
and speakers can be achieved.
6.
EQ
- This switch is not functional at present. It is reserved
for future use with other BGX subwoofer modules.
