The communication protocol includes three control
characters so that any value transmitted can be interpreted
as either data for processing or a functional indicator. The
three control characters are [SOP (0x0F), EOP (0x04) and
ESC (0x05)].
Any command, data or checksum value that is identical to
a control character requires the ESC value sent before the
intended byte. In simple terms the ESC (0x05) value must
be inserted before any data, command or checksum value
if it equals 0x0F, 0x04 or 0x05.
Example:
TX = 0F 0F A3 05 0F 4E 04
Host transmission begins with 2x SOP (0F 0F) followed by
a command for a specific level (A3). The data value next is
(0F) which is a control character therefore the ESC (05)
value must be placed before the data value. The checksum
follows (A3 + 0F + 4E = 00 on the lower byte). The final value
is the EOP indicator which completes the transmission and
allows the system to begin processing the data packet.
Note:
Control characters are not part of the checksum
calculation.
The response (RX) to the above example is the same as TX
in this case.
RX = 0F 0F A3 05 0F 4E 04 sent back to the host indicating
successful communication.
Note:
A single line (packet) of communication must be com-
pleted within 50ms or the RS-232 block will reset. Also RX will
be sent upon completion of the command processing. Some
commands may take several seconds before a response at
which time all newly received TX commands are ignored.

RS-232 Commands in Detail
Power Change (A0)
The power change command includes turning ON and OFF
the system.
Turn ON
TX = 0F 0F A0 01 5F 04
RX = 0F 0F A0 01 5F 04 (same as TX)
The above sequence will turn ON the system. If the system
is already ON then no change will occur but the power
indicator will flash momentarily to show an accepted
command and the display will wake if in the off state.
Turn OFF
TX = 0F 0F A0 00 60 04
RX = 0F 0F A0 00 60 04 (same as TX)
The above sequence will turn OFF the system. If the
system is already OFF then no change will occur.
Note:
If the hardware power trigger is currently at logic high
(within the specified range) then the OFF command will not
perform any system change as it is under external hardware
control. If the system is off this command is ignored.
