8.1 Word Mobile

The phone's built-in Microsoft Word Mobile® application gives you the ability to
browse and edit Microsoft Offi ce Word® documents on the PC. You can also create
and edit documents and templates in Word Mobile® and save them as doc, rtf,
txt, and dot format fi les. You can also modify the Word Mobile® fi les default save
location, add new fi le default templates, and list fi le types while browsing fi les.

Underline style: although Word Mobile® does not support underline styles, they

can be replaced with one of the four following styles, normal, dotted, waves, or
bold/thick/wide
Old Pocket Word® fi le: you can open *.psw fi les in Word Mobile®. If you wish to

edit the specifi c fi le, you must fi rst save the fi le as doc, rtf, txt, or dot format
Word Mobile® does not support all Offi ce Word® functions. When you save fi les on
the phone, you might lose some information or formatting. Word Mobile® does not
support these functions:

Style and text box

Art frames

Smart tags

Meta.les

Bi-directional text: even though Word Mobile® can open bi-directional character

documents, it may not be able to correctly display, save or align them
Password protected fi les: if you wish to view a password protected document

on the device, you must first remove the Microsoft Office Word® password
protection on the PC
Document protection: Word Mobile® does not support display of password

protected fi les on the PC

You can configure the "File" syncing option in ActiveSync, enabling
synchronization between the My Documents folder on the PC with the My
Documents folder on the phone. This will also place Word and other Offi ce
documents at this location. For help with ActiveSync settings, please refer to
Chapter 6. If an Offi ce document fi le is too large and takes up a great deal of
memory on the phone, save the document on the memory card to conserve
memory space on the phone
