When connected to non-DV equipment

[HDD] [RAM] [DVD-R]
You can record audio and video being played on a video cassette
player or a video camera connected to the input terminals.
Preparation
≥Before connecting any cables, first make sure that the power for
both units is off.
Then after connecting any cable, turn on the both units.
≥Connect the other equipment to this unit's input terminals
(page 71).
≥Switch [DVD, TV] (15) to "DVD".
≥Recording to the HDD:
Confirm there is sufficient empty space for recording on the
HDD. (page 26)
Recording to the disc:
Insert a disc that can be written to.
- Check that disc can be recorded on (page 10).
- Ensure the write protect tab is not set to "PROTECT"
(page 87).
- Ensure the disc is not write-protected with DISC
INFORMATION (page 39).
Press [HDD] or [DVD] (6) to select the recording

drive.

Press [REC MODE] (26) to select the recording

mode.
≥Select "XP", "SP", "LP", or "EP".
≥It is also possible to perform the flexible recording (FR).

While stopped
Press [W, X] (18) or [INPUT SELECT] (29) to select
the input channel for the equipment you have
connected.
≥Select AV1, AV2, AV3 or AV4.

Start play on the other equipment.

Press [¥, REC] (16) at the point you want to start
recording.

When connected to DV equipment

[HDD] [RAM] [DVD-R]
You can record audio and video being played on a DV equipment
connected to the DV input terminal.
Preparation
≥Before connecting any cables, first make sure that the power for
both units is off.
Then after connecting any cable, turn on the both units.
≥Connect the other equipment to this unit's input terminals
(page 67).
≥Use a DV cable to connect the equipment.
≥Switch [DVD, TV] to "DVD".
≥Recording to the HDD:
Confirm there is sufficient empty space for recording on the
HDD. (page 26)
Recording to the disc:
Insert a disc that can be written to.
- Check that disc can be recorded on (page 10).
- Ensure the write protect tab is not set to "PROTECT"
(page 87).
- Ensure the disc is not write-protected with DISC
INFORMATION (page 39).
Press [HDD] or [DVD] (6) to select the recording

Press [¥, REC] (16) at the point you want to start

Audio mode for DV input
Stereo 1:
Records sound (L1, R1) when DV recording is taking place.
Stereo 2:
Records added sound such as narration (L2, R2) subsequent to
original recording.
MIX:
Records both Stereo 1 and Stereo 2.
≥L1+L2 are recorded in L and R1+R2 are recorded in R. In the
case of bilingual broadcast, Stereo 1 is recorded when recording
to DVD-R or if recording in LPCM. Details of recording are given
in "Bilingual Audio Selection" (page 74).
ªTo skip unwanted parts
Press [;] (8) to pause recording.
Press again to restart recording.
ªTo stop recording
Press [∫] (7).
Note
≥Stop play on the other equipment as well.
≥This unit does not support recording the signal from a personal
computer.
For your reference
≥Poor video quality or colouring may indicate that the material you
are recording has copy protection.
≥If you connect an other equipment with RGB output capability to
the AV2 socket on this unit, the output signal of the equipment
must be set to RGB when you have set "AV2 Input" to "RGB (PAL
only)".
≥Select the TV system (PAL/NTSC) of the programme you wish to
record (page 75).
≥We recommend connecting one piece of DV equipment at a time.
≥When DV equipment is connected, it is not possible to use the
DV terminal and operate the unit from other equipment.
≥In the case of some DV equipment, pictures and sound may not
be received properly.
≥If there is no television picture when playing back from an
external device, turn the external device off and then on once
again.
≥Almost all videos and DVD software on sale have been treated to
prevent illegal copying. Any software that has been so treated
cannot be recorded using this unit.
≥When recording from DV equipment, the audio setting can be
made at "Audio Mode for DV Input". (page 74)
