2.8 BEFORE STARTING THEGENERATOR
Prior to operatingthe generator,engine oil and gasoline will need
to be added,as follows:
2.8.1 ADD/NGENG/NE O/L
All oil should meet minimum American Petroleum Institute (API)
Service Class SJ, SL or better. Use no special additives. Select
the oil's viscosity grade according to the expected operating
temperature(also see chart).
* Above40° F,use SAE30
* Below 40° F and down to 10° F,use 10W-30
* Below 10° F,use synthetic 5W-30
,_ Any attempt to crank or start the enginebefore it has
been properlyserviced with the recommended oil may
resultin an enginefailure.

* Place generator on a level surface (not to exceed 15° in any
direction).
* Cleanarea around oil fill and remove oil fill cap.
* Slowly fill engine with oil through the oil fill opening until it
reachesthefull mark. Stopfilling occasionallyto check oil level.
(Engine oil is full when level is up to the threads of the oil fill
plug, see Figure9)
* Install oil fill cap and finger tighten securely.
* Checkengine oil levelbefore starting eachtime thereafter.

D0 NOTlight a cigaretteor smokewhen filling the fuel
tank.
,_ Never fill fuel tankindoors.Never fill fuel tankwhen
engine is runningor hot.Avoid spillinggasoline on a hot
engine.Allow engineto coolentirely beforefilling fuel
tank.
Do notoverfill the fuel tank. Always leave roomfor fuel
expansion. If the fuel tank is overfilled, fuel can overflow
ontoa hot engineand cause FIREor EXPLOSION. W ipe
up any spilledfuel immediately.
* Use regular UNLEADED gasolinewith the generatorengine.Do
not use premium gasoline. Do not mix oil with gasoline.
* Do not use gasoline with more than 10% alcohol such as E85
or Methanol.
* Cleanarea around fuel fill cap, remove cap.
* Slowly add unleadedregulargasolineto fuel tank. Fillto bottom
of screen filter. Be carefulnot to overfill (Figure10).
* Install fuel cap and wipe up any spilled gasoline.
