Broiling is cooking food by direct heat from above the food. Most fish and tender cuts of meat can be broiled. Follow
these steps to keep spattering and smoking to a minimum.
Your range has a compartment below the oven for broiling. A specially designed broiler pan allows dripping fat to
drain away from the food.
Both the oven door and broiler compartment drawer should be closed during broiling.
How to Set YourOven for Broiling

Preheat
the
broiler
for best
results°
If the meat
has flit or gristle
around
the edge, cut vertical slashes
through
it about
2 inches
apart,
but don't
cut into the meat.
We
recommend
fllat you t_Jmtile fat to
prevent
excessive smoking,
leaving a
layer about
1/8 inch thick.

Close tile oven door and broiler

Turn tile OVENTEMP knob to BROIL.
Turn most foods once dining
cooking.
Time foods fbr about
one-
half tile total cooldng
dine, turn
food, then continue
to cook to
preferred
doneness.
Turn tile OVEN TEMP knob to OFF
Remove tile broiler pail fiom tlle
broiler rack and serve tlle food
immediately: Leave tile pan
outside tile range to cool.
Broiler Compartment
Tile broiler pan is held in place in the
broiler rack.
Toremovethe broilerpan:

Gently pull fbrward on tile drop
down broiler door
Pull tile broiler rack with pan
forward until tlle rack stops. Grasp
tlle broiler pan and remove it fiom
tlle broiler rack.
Toreplacethe broilerpan:

Slide tlle broiler pail onto tlle rack
and push both tile broiler pail and
tile rack all the way into tile broiler
compartment.
Close the broiler
door
Use of Aluminum Foil
Never covertheoven bottomwith
aluminumfoil.
You can use aluminum
foil to line your
broiler
pail and broiler
grid. Howevei;
you must mold tile foil dghtly
to tile pan
and cut slits in the foil to open
all slots
in the grid.
Aluminunl frill may a/so be used to catch
a spillover To do so, place a small sheet
of foil on a lower shelf several inches
below the food.
Never endrely cover a shelf with
aluminunl
foil. This will disturb tile heat
circulation and result in poor baking.
