Section 3: Run a Job

Section 3.1: Load Roll and Splice to Web
Tools Required: Scissors, Marker
Notes Before Beginning:
It is highly recommended that you always leave enough footer on the end of your
previous job to allow for easy splicing of new material. Approximately 12 feet of footer is
necessary if you intend to cut and wind every label from your previous job. If you follow
this recommendation you will never have to re-thread the FX1200.
The FX1200 comes from the factory pre-threaded. These instructions assume that
material is attached to the supply mandrel and lower take up mandrel. If you have not
left enough material or it was necessary to remove the paper for some other reason
please see section 5.2 to find instructions on how to rethread the system.
The following instructions represent one possible way to setup a job. You may develop
your own procedures over time which may work equally well for your use of this system.
Warning: Before starting a new job, always make sure the waste matrix from the previous job
has been cut. Cut the matrix as close to the web as possible and make sure to press the stock
back on the liner before advancing the system forward. This will prevent the facestock from
getting stuck in the slitter. Roll the excess matrix onto the weeder mandrel.
1. Press "Setup Tab" on the touch screen.
2. Press "Release Tension" This will release back
tension on the supply roll and allow you to load a
new roll.
3. Turn the unwinder/supply mandrel forward just
enough to give you slack in order to cut the web
directly over the supply mandrel. This will give you
enough slack so that you can splice the new roll.
4. Loosen the core engagement knob and remove the
remaining portion of the previous roll.
5. Place the new roll on the unwinder chuck. Push it back until it touches the media guide.
6. Turn the core engagement knob clockwise to lock the roll in place.
7. Peel back approximately 3 inches (7.5 cm) of label from the liner of the new roll.
8. With the scissors, cut and remove 2 inches (5 cm) of liner. This will expose 2 inches of
adhesive.
