Slowdownbeforeturningand come toa completestop before
anyzeroturn maneuver.
If youhit a solidobject whilemowing,DISENGAGE the PTO,
placethe steeringleversin the neutral,opened-outposition,
movethe throttleto slowq?::>,set the parkingbrake8, shut off
the engine,and take the keyfrom the ignitionswitch.Inspectfor
damage.Repairthe damage.Makesurethe bladesare in good
conditionand that the blade boltsare tight beforerestartingthe
engine.
Do not stopthe riding moweror parkthe riding mowerover
combustiblematerialssuch as dry grass,leaves,debris,etc.
Keepthe mowerand especiallytheengine and hydrauliccompo-
nentscleanand free of grease,grass,and leavesto reducethe
chanceof fire and permitpropercooling.
Do notfill the fuel tankwhen theengine is runningor whilethe
engineis hot. Allowthe engineseveralminutesto cool before
refueling.Tightenthe fuelcap securely.
BEFORE
OPERATING
YOUR RIDING MOWER
1.
Beforeyou operatethe ridingmower,studythis manualcarefully
to familiarizeyourselfwith the operationof all the instrumentsand
controls.It has been preparedto help youoperateand maintain
yourriding mowerefficiently.
2.
Fill thefuel tank with onlyclean, fresh,unleadedgasolinewith a
pumpstickeroctaneratingof 87 or higher.Whenthe fuel reaches
one inchfrom the top of the tank,stop.DO NOTOVERFILL.
Spacemustbe left for expansion.
3.
Checktheengineoil level. Pullout the oil dipstick,wipeit off and
reinsertit. Pull it out againand readthe oil level. If it is belowthe
operatingrange,add oil throughthe fill tube usinga funnelto
bring it up to the top of the operatingrange.
4.
Checkthetire inflationpressures-8-10psi for the rear tires,
20-25psi front tires.
NOTE: Newtires are overinflatedin order to properlyseat the beadto
the rim.
5.
Checkthatall nuts,bolts and screwsare tight.
6.
Checkthetensionof the deck drivebelts as instructedin the
Serviceand Maintenancesection.
7.
Checkif deck is level.Whencorrectlyadjustedthe mowerdeck
shouldbe levelside to side,and the front of the deck shouldbe
approximately 1/4"lowerthanthe rear of deck.If deck needsto be
leveled,referto the Serviceand Maintenance section.
8.
Lubricateall pivotpoints listedin the Serviceand Maintenance
section.
9.
Adjustthe seat foroperator'smaximumcomfort,visibility and for
maintaining completecontrolof the ridingmower.
SAFETY
INTERLOCK
SYSTEM
This ridingmoweris equippedwith a safety interlocksystemfor
the protectionof the operator.If the interlocksystemshouldever
malfunction, d o not operatethe ridingmower.Call 1-800-659-
5917to scheduleservicefrom SearsParts & Repair.
The safetyinterlocksystempreventsthe enginefrom cranking
or startingunlessthe RH and LH drivecontrolleversare moved
fully outwardto eachside in the neutralposition,the parking
brakeis ENGAGED, and the PTOis DISENGAGED.
Toavoidsuddenmovement w hendisengagingthe parkingbrake,
the safetyinterlocksystemwill shutoff the engineif the RHand/
or LH drivecontrolleversare movedto a positionotherthan
the fully out in the neutralpositionwhenthe parkingbrakeis
engaged.
The safetyinterlocksystemwill shut off theengine if the operator
leavesthe seat beforeengagingthe parkingbrake.
The safetyinterlocksystemwill shut off theengine if the operator
leavesthe seat with the PTOengaged,regardless of whetherthe
parkingbrakeis engaged.
NOTE:The PTOswitch mustbe movedto the DISENGAGED position
to restartthe engine.
The safetyinterlocksystemwill shut off the PTOand the mower
bladeswill stop if bothdrive controlleversare movedintothe
reverseposition.The PTOwill re-engage when one or bothof the
leversare movedbackto eitherthe neutralor forwardposition.
