Adjusting
the Gauge
Wheels
Keephandsand feet awayfrom the dischargeopeningof thecutting
deck.
NOTE:The deckgaugewheelsare an anti-scalpfeatureof thedeckand
are notdesignedto supporttheweightof thecuttingdeck.
Themowerdeck cuttingheightcanbe set usingthe tractor'sdeck lift
pedal.Thedeck heightsrangefrom 1"to 4".Thedeck gaugewheel
positionshouldbe approximately 1/4to 1/2"abovethe groundwhen
the deck is set in the desiredheightsetting.
Usingthe lift pedal,set thedeck in the desiredheightsetting,then
checkthe gaugewheeldistancefrom the groundbelow.If necessary,
adjustas follows:
1.
Visuallycheckthedistancebetweenthe front gaugewheelsand
the ground.If thegauge wheelsare near or touchingtheground,
they shouldbe raised.If morethan 1/2"abovethe ground,they
shouldbe lowered.

Removethelock nut securingone of the frontgauge wheel
shoulderscrewsto the deck.Removethegaugewheeland hex
screw.Referto Figure35.

Insertthe hexscrewintothe one of three indexholesin the front
gaugewheelbracketthat will givethe gaugewheela 1/4"to 1/2"
clearancewith the ground.

Notethe indexhole of thejust adjustedwheel,and adjustthe
othergaugewheelsinto the respectiveindexholesof the other
gaugewheelbracketson thedeck.
Deck Removal
The mufflerat the rearofthe tractormaybe extremelyhot,and could I
Icauseseriousburns.Useextremecautionwhennearthe muffler. A llowI
_themufflertofully coolbeforeremoving thebeltfrom thePTOpulley. J
Removethe mowerdeckfrom the tractoras follows:
1.
Applythe parkingbrake.Removeignitionkey and bothspark plug
caps.
2.
Placethe deck lift pedalin the lowestmowingpositionand
replacethe pin in frontof pedalin thedeck heightbracketto
secureit in place.
NOTE:Thereisa certain amount o f spring tension duetotheweight o f the
deck.Whenremoving t heliftlinkage fromthedeckthetension d thesprings
willgofromthedeckto thedeckliftpedal.Notcapturing thedeckliftpedal
whileremoving theliftlinkage fromthedeckwillcauseitto snapback.
3.
Reducethe tensionon the PTObelt by movingthe idlerarm
levertowardthe backof thetractor,then removethe beltfrom the
pulley.See Figure36.
