Executing
a Zero Turn
Whenexecutinga zeroturn, the ridingmowerMUSTBE STOPPED.
Executinga zeroturn whilethe ridingmoweris movingcan signifi-
Icantlyreduceyourcontrol of the ridingmowerand will causesevere
[turf defacement t o occur.
1.
Stopthe forwardor reversemotionof the riding mowerby moving
thetwo drivecontrolleversto neutral.
2.
Toturnclockwise,movethe left controlleverforwardwhile
simultaneously movingthe rightcontrolleverrearward.See
Figure21.

Executing
a "Y"
Manuever
Forlowtractionconditions,followthese procedures for zeroturns (the
"Y-manuever"):
Toturn clockwise(front of machinemovestowardRIGHT)when
travelingFORWARD:
1.
Cometoa stop,
2.
Then slowlymove bothcontrolleversrearward(no morethan 1/2
maximumreversespeed)to initiateREVERSE travel,
3.
Then slowlymovethe LEFTcontrol leverforwardwhile maintain-
ingthe RIGHTcontrol leverin the rearwardtravelposition.
4.
To stopthe turnand reinitiateFORWARD travel,slowlymove
the RIGHTcontrolleverfrom the REVERSE travelpositionto a
FORWARD travelpositionequalto that of the LEFTcontrollever.
5.
Forcounterclockwise turns, reversethe aboveprocedure.
STOPPING
THE
RIDING
MOWER
1.
Movebothdrivecontrolleversto the neutralpositionto stop the
motionof the ridingmower.
2.
Pushthe PTOswitchdownwardto the DISENGAGED position.
3.
Usethe deck lift pedalto raisethe deck to itshighestposition.
4.
If dismountingthe riding mower,movethe drivecontrol levers
fully outwardin the neutralposition,engagethe parkingbrake,
move thethrottlecontrolleverto the FAST_
position,turnthe
ignition switchto STOP_ and removethe keyfrom the switch.
Donot leavethe seat of the riding mowerwithoutdisengagingthe
PTO, movingdrivecontrol leversfullyoutward inthe neutralposition,
land engagingthe parkingbrake.If leavingthe ridingmowerunat-
ltended, turnthe ignition key off and removekey.
DRIVING
ON SLOPES
Referto the slopegauge in the Safe OperationSectionto help
determineslopeswhereyou may notoperatesafely.

Donot operateon inclineswith a slope in excessof 15degrees(a
riseof approximately 2-1/2feet every 10feet).The ridingmower
couldoverturnand causeseriousinjury.
1.
Alwaysdriveacrossslopes,neverup and down.Controlthe
speedand directionof the riding mowerusingprimarilythecontrol
leveron thedownhillsideof the riding mower,with the uphill
control leverremainingessentiallyina fixed position.
2.
Avoidturningdownhillif possible.Start at the bottomof a slope
and work upward.Alwaysslowdown beforeturning.
3.
Useextra careand go slowlywhen turningdownhill.
