USING THE TRANSMiSSiON
BYPASS
RODS
If for any reasonthe ridingmowerwillnot driveor youwish to movethe
riding mower,the two hydrostatictransmissions are equippedwith a
bypassrodthat will allowyou to manuallymovethe riding mowershort
distances.
Do nottow the ridingmower,evenwith the bypassrod engaged.
Serioustransmissiondamagewill resultfrom doing so.

Fromjustin front of thetwo rear tires,locatethe transmission
bypassrods.Referto Figure31.

forwardor rearwardwithinthe rangeof the slot in eachcontrol lever
mountingbracket.
Toadjust thedrive controlleverheight,proceedas follows:
1.
Removethe flangelock nut, flat washer,and hexscrewsecuring
the leverto the pivot bracket.
2.
Whilesupportingthecontrol leverto keepitfromfalling, remove
the hex insertflangelock nut and shoulderscrewfromthe bottom
of the control leverand pivot bracket.Referto Figure32.

Pull one rod towardthe frontof the ridingmoweruntilthe flange
on the rod isforwardof the keyholeslot in theframe assembly.
3.
Lowerthe bypassrod intothe keyholeslot and releaseso the rod
flangeis againstthe frontof the frame bracket.
4.
Repeattheaboveproceduretoengagethe otherbypassrod on
theother sideof the ridingmower.
5.
After movingthe ridingmower,disengageboth bypassrods. Lift
the rod and guidethe flangeof the rod backthroughthe larger
circularopeningof the keyhole,then releasethe rod.
NOTE:Theriding mower willnotdrivewiththebypass rodsin theengage
position.
ADJUSTMENTS
Shutthe engineoff, removethe ignitionkeyand engagethe parking
brakebeforemakingadjustments.Protectyour handsbyusing heavy
[g oves whenhand ng the bades.

RH & LH Drive Control
Levers
The RHand LHdrivecontrol leverscanbe adjustedup or downand
fore-and-aftfor the comfortof the operator. T he drivecontrollevers
can be placedineitherof two heightpositions,and/orcan be moved

Repositionthe controlleverto alignwith theother set of holesin
the pivot bracketand insertthe shoulderscrewremoved earlier.
Fastenwith the hexinsert f langelock nutand tighten untilsnug.
4.
Insertthe hex screwwith washerthroughthe control leverslot
and the pivot bracket.Threadtheflange lock nutontothe screw,
but do nottightennow.
5.
If you are goingto adjust thecontrol leversforwardor rearward,
proceedtothe next step.If not, fully tightenthe flangelock nut.
Toadjustthedrivecontrol l eversforward or rearward, proceedasfollows:
1.
If not alreadyloose, loosenthe flangelock nut and rotatethe
control levereitherforwardor rearwardto thedesiredposition.

NOTE:If thecontrol l everistootightto move,slightlyloosenthehexinsert
flangelocknutandshoulderscrewatthebottomof thecontrollever.

Tightenthe flangelock nut to fix the controlleverin theadjusted
position
3.
Repeatthe aboveprocedureto adjustthe othercontrol leverinto
the same position.Adjustso that bothleversare evenwith each
otherwhen inthe neutralposition.
