Executing
a Zero Turn
When executinga zeroturn, the ridingmowerMUSTBE STOPPED.
Executinga zeroturn whilethe ridingmoweris movingcan signifi-
cantly reduceyourcontrolof the ridingmowerand will causesevere
turf defacement t o occur.
Stopthe forwardor reversemotionof the riding mowerby moving
the two drivecontrolleversto neutral.

Toturnclockwise, m ovethe left controlleverforwardwhilesimulta-
neouslymovingthe rightcontrolleverrearward. S ee Figure20.

Toturncounterclockwise, movethe rightcontrolleverforward while
simultaneously moving theleft control l everrearward. S ee Figure 21.

Pushthe PTOswitchdownwardto the DISENGAGED position.
3.
Usethe deck lift handleto raisethe deck to itshighestposition.
4.
If dismounting the ridingmower,movethe drivecontrolleversfully
outwardin theneutralposition,engagethe parkingbrakeO, move
the throttle/choke controlleverto the FAST_
position,turnthe
ignition s witchto STOP_ and remove the keyfromthe switch.
Donot leavethe seat of the riding mowerwithoutdisengagingthe
PTO, movingdrivecontrol leversfully outwardin the neutralposition,
and engagingthe parkingbrake.If leavingthe ridingmowerunat-
tended,turnthe ignition key off and removekey.
DRIVING
ON SLOPES
Referto the slopegaugein the SafeOperationSectionto help
determineslopes whereyou maynot operatesafely.
Donot operateon inclines w ith a slopein excessof 15 degrees(a
riseof approximately 2-1/2feetevery 10 feet).The ridingmowercould
overturnand causeseriousinjury.
1.
Alwaysdrive acrossslopes,neverup and down.Controlthe
speedand directionof the riding mowerusing primarilythe control
leveron thedownhillsideof the riding mower,with the uphill
control leverremainingessentiallyina fixed position.
2.
Avoidturningdownhillif possible.Start at the bottomof a slope
and work upward.Alwaysslowdownbeforeturning.
3.
Useextra careand go slowlywhenturningdownhill.
OPERATING
THE PTO
Operatethe PTOclutchas follows:
1.
Movethe throttle/chokecontrolleverto approximately the mid
throttleposition.
2.
Pullthe PTOswitchupwardto the ENGAGED position.
3.
Advancethethrottle/chokeleverto the FAST_
position(full
throttle).
4.
The operatormustremainin the riding mowerseatat all times.If
the operatorshouldleavethe seat withoutturningoff the power
take-off switch,the riding mower'senginewill shut off.
5.
The PTOclutchcannotbe operatedwhenthe ridingmoweris
drivingin the reversedirection.The PTOwilldisengagewhen
bothdrivecontrolleversare movedto the reverseposition,and
will re-engagewhenone (or both)controllever(s)is movedto the
neutralor forward position.
