Screen displays turn o n and oft repeatedly.
-The battery pack is exhausted. Replace or c harge the b attery pack.
-Remove the b attery pack and reattach itcorrectly.
Abnormal characters appear on the s creen and the c amcorder does not operate properly.
-Disconnect the p ower source and reconnect itafter ashort time. If t he p roblem still persists,
use the [ _] _ [Reset All] menu option to reset all the c amcorder's settings to default values.
Video noise appears on screen.
-Keep adistance between the c amcorder and devices that emit strong electromagnetic fields
(plasma TVs, cellular phones, etc.).
Horizontal bands appear on the s creen.
-This is aphenomenon typical of C MOS image sensors when recording under some types of
fluorescent, mercury or s odium lamps. This is not amalfunction. To r educe the s ymptoms,
change the _ O [Flicker Reduction] setting.
Noise can be heard along with the r ecorded sound.
-When recording sound with an external microphone, the i nterference caused by w ireless
communications may be picked up and recorded as noise. We recommend turning off the
wireless communication while recording ([_[3 139).
Sound is distorted or is recorded at l ower levels.
-When recording near loud sounds (such as f ireworks, shows or c oncerts), sound may become
distorted or i tmay not be recorded at t he a ctual levels. Activate the m icrophone attenuator
(1_3 135) or a djust the a udio recording level manually ([_J 6 8).
The picture is displayed correctly but there is no sound from t he b uilt-in speaker.
-Speaker volume is turned off. Adjust the v olume.
-Ifthe S TV-25ON Stereo Video Cable is connected to the c amcorder, disconnect it.
-The AV O UT/_} terminal is set to headphone output. Set [£'i _ [AV/Headphones] to [AV].
Memory Card andAccessories
Cannot insert the memory card.
- The memory cardwas not facing the correct direction. Turn the memory card over and insert
it.
Cannot record on the memory card.
- The memory card is full. Delete some recordings (L_ 53, 90) to free somespace or replace
the memory card.
- Initialize the memory card (L_ 38)when you use it with the camcorder for the first time.
- The LOCK switch on the memory card is set to prevent accidental erasure. Changethe posi-
tion of the LOCKswitch.
- A compatible memory card must be usedto be able to record movieson a memory card
(L._335).
