Daisy-Chain Connection

1. Prepare Category 5 straight-through twisted-pair cables with RJ-45 plugs at both
ends. Connect the SwitcHub to another compatible hub using the crossover
port (labeled
) on either the SwitcHub or on the attached hub (but not
MDI
both). Also note that as a general rule, the length of twisted-pair cable
should not exceed 100 meters.
2. Set the communication mode via the Configure button to half-duplex or
full-duplex operation to match the connected device. (Refer to
Communication Mode
The IEEE 802.3 standard recommends restricting the number of hubs connected
in a stack via twisted-pair cable to 7; while IEEE 802.3u provides even stricter
recommendations for Fast Ethernet. Therefore, when cascading devices other than
the SwitcHub-2s, please refer to the accompanying documentation for restrictions
on stack size. However, note that because the SwitcHub breaks up the path for
connected devices into separate collision domains, you should not include the
switching hub or connected cabling in your calculations for cascade length
involving other devices.
Note: In contrast to repeater hubs, a cascade of switches breaks up the collision
domain. The number of switches that can be cascaded is therefore theoretically
unlimited. However, in practice, the length of a cascade may be limited by the
time-out requirements of the particular applications running over the network.
