Installing a power supply

Complete the following steps to install a hot-swap power supply:
1. Read Appendix B, "Safety information," on page 129 and "Installation guidelines"
2. Remove the power-supply blank from the empty power-supply bay by inserting

3. Install the power supply in the bay:

4. Connect the power cord for the new power supply to the power-cord connector
5. Connect the power cord to a properly grounded electrical outlet.

a coin or flat-tipped screwdriver into the slot in the middle of the power-supply
blank. Pull the power-supply blank from the power-supply bay. Save the
power-supply blank in case you remove the power supply at a later time.
Attention:
During normal operation, each power-supply bay must have either
a power supply or power-supply blank installed for proper cooling.
Figure 33 shows power-supply 1 and power-supply 2 with a blank cover and
slot.
a. Rotate the handle down on the rear of the power supply to the open
position, and then slide the power supply forward into the power-supply bay.
b. Gently lift the latch handle up until it clicks to securely seat the power supply
in the bay.
Figure 34 shows how to install a power supply.
