The craft interface is the panel on the front of the router that displays system status
messages and allows you to troubleshoot the router. The craft interface is located at the
top of the chassis above the FPC card cage. It contains LEDs, buttons, and an LCD showing
status messages for the router.
To display system alarm messages on the LCD, see "Troubleshooting Using the T640
Chassis and Interface Alarm Messages" on page 165. For more information about using
the craft interface, see "T640 Craft Interface Description" on page 41.
LEDs on the craft interface include:
Host subsystem LEDs—Three LEDs (one green
) indicate the status of each host subsystem. The host subsystem LEDs are located

Alarm LEDs—One large red circular LED and one large yellow triangular LED, located
on the upper left of the craft interface, indicate two levels of alarm conditions. You can
determine the cause of the alarm condition by looking at the LCD on the craft interface.
