  • How do I replace the saw blade on the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw?

To replace the saw blade on the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw, follow these steps:

    1. Remove the travelling sizing table.
    2. Raise the saw blade fully.
    3. Remove the blade guard.
    4. Loosen screws on the chip case cover. Lift the chip case cover slightly and swing it over the screws.
    5. To block the saw blade, insert the lock bar into the hole in the saw table and turn the saw blade by hand until the lock bar engages in the saw spindle hole.
    6. Loosen the saw blade spindle arbor nut with a spanner (it has a L.H. thread!).
    7. Take the outer blade collar and saw blade off the saw spindle.
    8. Clean the clamping surfaces of the saw spindle and saw blade.
    9. Put on a fresh saw blade, ensuring to observe the direction of rotation. The saw spindle's driving pin must fit into one of the saw blade's two pin holes. 1
    10. Slide the outer blade collar onto the saw spindle. The saw spindle's driving pin must fit into the pin hole of the outer blade collar. 1
    11. Screw the arbor nut, with the low side facing the blade, onto the saw spindle (L.H. thread!). Tighten fingertight only with the tool supplied. 1
    12. Slide the chip case cover back into the closed position and tighten the screws. 1
    13. Reinstall the travelling sizing table.

Always wear gloves when changing blades to avoid injury from the saw blade's teeth.

  • What type of blades can be used with the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw?

The Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw can use:

    • Main saw blades with a diameter of 250 mm and an arbor bore of 30 mm, with a maximum depth of cut of 80 mm.
      • For extraordinary long edge life for solid timber or laminated timber: Ø 250 x 3.2/2.2 x 30 2NL, T = 42 universal ATB.
      • For smooth edge cuts in solid timber or particle board: Ø 250 x 3.2/2.2 x 30 2NL, T = 80 multiple ATB.
      • In conjunction with a scribing blade for faced sheets or veneered sheets: Ø 250 x 3.2/2.2 x 30 2NL, T = 60 combination ATB.
    • Scribing blades with a diameter of 90 mm and an arbor bore of 30 mm.
      • For solid timber, faced sheets, veneered sheets, or particle board: Ø 90 x 4.8/3.2 x 30, T = 10 flat top.

Only suitable saw blades should be used. Saw blades made of high speed steel (HSS), saw blades with visible damage, or cut-off wheel blades should not be used.

For more information, see pages 6, 14 and 22 of the manual.

  • What safety features does the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw include?

The Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw includes several safety features:

    • Riving knife: This device prevents the workpiece from being caught by the rising teeth of the saw blade and being thrown against the operator. It must always be installed during operation.
    • Blade guard: This protects against accidental contact with the blade and keeps chips from flying about. It must always be installed during operation.
    • On/off switch with motor protection: A motor protection switch is built into the switch enclosure to switch the motor off in the event of an overload. An undervoltage relay trips in the event of a voltage failure to prevent a restarting of the saw when power is restored.
    • General safety guidelines: The saw should only be operated in a dry environment and connected to a power source with fuse protection by a residual current operated device (RCD) of 30 mA sensitivity, properly grounded outlets, and outlets for 3-phase circuits with a neutral lead. It's crucial to switch the machine OFF, unplug the power cable, and wait until the saw blade comes to a complete standstill before any service or maintenance work. Dull blades should be replaced without delay to avoid kickback. The workpiece should always be pushed down on the saw table and not jammed.

  • How do I set up the fence on the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw for accurate cuts?

To set up the fence for accurate cuts:

    • Rip fence:
      • The rip fence slides onto the saw from the right-hand side and locks on the saw's front.
      • Always tighten the lower lock lever to prevent jamming.
      • The auxiliary fence extrusion can be repositioned for a small edge (for cutting thin stock or when the saw blade is tilted) or a wide edge (for cutting thick stock up to 65 mm).
      • For rip cuts, lock the rip fence in the required position on the saw table.
      • Reposition the auxiliary fence extrusion as necessary: low edge for thin stock or high edge for thick stock.
      • To set the rip fence scale, position the rip fence against the right-hand side of the main blade and lock it. The "0"-mark of the scale should be directly underneath the left-hand edge of the rip fence extrusion. If not, loosen the fixing screw and reposition the scale, then tighten the fixing screw and remove the rip fence.
    • Mitre fence:
    • Universal fence adjustments:
      • Check if the fence is square against the saw blade with a try square.
      • If necessary, loosen fixing screws and adjust the mitre scale.
      • Retighten fixing screws.
      • After resetting any backstops, check the bevel tilt scale on the machine's front and adjust if necessary.

  • What should I do if the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw motor overheats?

If the motor of your Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw overheats, which can be caused by a dull saw blade, too high a feed rate, or sawdust build-up in the housing, you should:

    • Eliminate the cause for overheating.
    • Wait for a few minutes.
    • Then, start the saw again.

For more information, see page 20 of the manual.

  • How often should I clean the Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw?

The Elektra Beckum PKF 255 V8 Saw should be cleaned:

    • Monthly (if used daily): Clean guide elements for saw blade setting (threaded rods for blade rise and fall, swivel segments) and check guide elements of the travelling sizing table (bearing surfaces, roll bearings). This involves removing chips with a vacuum cleaner or brush and applying a light coat of oil to guide elements.
    • Regularly: Remove chips and sawdust from saw blade setting guide elements, travelling sizing table guide elements, and motor vent slots using a vacuum cleaner or brush.
