LONG PERIODS OF INACTIVITY

When the vehicle is to remain unused for
long periods, some precautions are
necessary to avoid damage.
Do not postpone necessary repairs or you
could forget them when you take the
vehicle out of storage; a general check up
is also recommended.
Proceed as follows:
Empty the fuel tank and the carburettor,
u
see page 53 (DRAINING THE FUEL
TANK).
Remove the spark plug, see page 44
u
(SPARK PLUG).
Pour a teaspoon of engine oil (5-10
u
cu.cm) into the cylinder.
CAUTION
Put a clean cloth on
the cylinder, near the spark plug seat, in
order to protect it from oil sprays.
Turn the ignition switch to position " "
u
and press the engine start push-button
" " for a few seconds, to distribute the
oil evenly on the cylinder surfaces.
Remove the cloth.
u
Refit the spark plug.
u
Remove the battery,
u

Wash and dry the vehicle, see page 54
u
(CLEANING).
Polish painted surfaces with wax.
u
Inflate the tyres, see
u
(TECHNICAL DATA).
By means of a suitable support, position
u
the vehicle so that both tyres are raised
from the ground.
Store the vehicle in an unheated, dry
u
pl ac e, a wa y from sun li gh t , wh ere
temperature is reasonably steady.
Wrap and tie a plastic bag around the
u
exhaust pipe opening to keep moisture
out.
Cover the vehicle avoiding plastic or
u
waterproof covers.

Remove the cover and clean the vehicle,

Check battery charge, see page 47
