Introduction

This document describes technical details of the Connected Equipment Gateway (CEG) and its
use with the Transparent MS/TP Router (TMR) Series Wireless System and the BACnet® MS/TP
controllers that the CEG manages.
Use this document for additional information about how to install, commission, maintain, and
troubleshoot the CEG and the TMR Wireless System. Also included is a brief technical background
on the wireless technology that the system uses.

Applications

You can use the following methods to stream chiller data through the CEG to the Connected
Equipment Portal (CEP):
• Wireless by adding the TMR wireless router to the chiller's BACnet MS/TP port
• Directly, or wired, by connecting to the same BACnet MS/TP trunk as the chiller
Note: The CEG supports BACnet MS/TP devices at BACnet protocol revision 4 or later.
However, for optimal network performance, use devices at BACnet protocol revision 15 or
later.

CEG and TMR System overview

The CEG uses BACnet MS/TP open protocol to monitor chiller operation. The gateway can
communicate either through hardwired RS-485 or wirelessly, using mesh network technology with
self-healing capabilities. The CEG then aggregates, packages, and transmits the data to the Johnson
