The CO detector monitors the CO concentration in parts per
million (ppm) in the air around the detector.
50 ppm
Ì The maximum allowable concentration for conti-
nuous exposure of healthy adults over an 8-hour
period (according to the recommendations of the
Occupational Safety & Health Administration).
100 ppm
Ì Mild headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea after
2–3 hours.
300 ppm
Frontal headaches within 1–2 hours, life-threate-

ning after 3 hours.
800ppm
Dizziness, nausea, and convulsions within 45
Ì
minutes. Unconsciousness within 2 hours.
Death within 2–3 hours.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Ì This device is designed to protect individuals from the
acute effects of carbon monoxide exposure. It may not
protect those who are at additional risk due to age,
pregnancy, or health conditions. If in doubt, consult your
doctor.
Ì This device should not be used as a substitute for proper
installation, use, and maintenance of fuel-burning appli-
ances, including appropriate ventilation and exhaust sys-
tems.
Ì Common sources of CO include: Blocked chimneys from
fireplaces or stoves, gas floor heaters (gas boilers), hea-
ting systems, and the operation of charcoal grills, gas sto-
ves, or running engines in enclosed spaces.
Ì CO can penetrate walls and ceilings, so the source of
the CO leak could be in apartments on other floors,
in the basement, or in an adjacent building.
