Analyzers. Refer service requirements to qualified personnel. Read this entire section before beginning installation of the analyzer. Failure to do so, and/or use of the WDG-V HP Series or WDG-V/S Series Analyzer in a manner not specified in this manual, may impair the protection against fire, electrical shock, and personal injury originally provided by this equipment.
Open the Remote Calibration Unit (RCU) Enclosure and inspect all interior components for obvious damage and broken/loose parts or fittings. If equipment is damaged, notify the carrier and contact AMETEK Service (https://www.ametekpi.com/customersupport/requestsupport) immediately if parts are missing or damage is found, and to verify if damaged parts will re- quire replacement prior to safely installing and operating the analyzer/equip- ment.
Analyzer Site Preparation The WDG-V HP Series and WDG-V/S Series Analyzers are approved for installa- tion in hazardous areas classified as Class I, Class II, Division 2, Zone 2. Observe the following guidelines when selecting an analyzer installation location: •...
Always install the analyzer in a location that is as free as possible from vibrations. • The WDG-V/S Series and WDG-V HP Series Analyzers are rated for outdoor operation (IP65 / NEMA 4X and ambient -20 °C to +60 °C (-4 °F to 140 °F). 32 | Thermox ®...
Installing the Sample Inlet Probe This section includes separate procedures on how to install the Sample Inlet Probe for WDG-V HP Series and WDG-V/S Series Analyzers. Installing the Sample Inlet Probe and Probe Filter (WDG-V HP Series) The sample probe and filter must be attached to the back of the sensor before mounting the sensor to the process.
In that case you should mount the analyzer first and then install the probe. 34 | Thermox ® WDG-V HP Series and WDG-V/S Series Analyzers PN 10686-17-5, Rev A...
Installing the Standard 1/8-inch NPT Sample Probe (WDG-V/S Series) Connect a standard 1/8-inch NPT Sample Probe to the analyzer as follows: • If your probe is 4 feet or less, simply thread the probe into the back of the sample probe port on the rear of the analyzer (Figure 7), then install the analyzer.
4. Thread the ceramic or long probe into the sensor inlet port on the sensor backplate. Do not let the probe hit against the AMETEK-provided pipe nip- ple as you insert the probe into the process stream. If inserting a ceramic probe, you must slowly insert it into a hot process stream to prevent the probe from cracking due to thermal shock.
If installing an exhaust tube, you must connect it to the analyzer be- fore mounting the analyzer to the process stream. An optional stainless steel exhaust tube (AMETEK Part No. 70619KE) is available if an extension to the aspirator exhaust is needed.
Enclosure door until you first verify that the area has been classified as nonhazardous. There are three (3) different methods to mount a WDG-V HP Series Analyzer to the process gas. Each of these methods is explained in the following pages.
Page 45
3. Weld the AMETEK-supplied mounting plate to the process wall. 4. Mount the analyzer to the process as described in the “Mounting the Sen- sor to the Process” section later in this chapter. This method positions the analyzer flush with the process and helps to ensure that the sample gas does not cool below its dewpoint.
1. Weld a short 3-1/2" diameter pipe nipple to the duct and extend through the wall. The shorter the pipe nipple, the better. 2. Insert the AMETEK-supplied pipe nipple (on the end of the mounting plate) into your pipe nipple. If the pipe nipple extends past the inside of the refractory wall on a process which has a gas temperature over 650 °C,...
WDG-V HP Series Mount the analyzer to a 3" x 300# customer-supplied flange (Figure 10). In this case, you will not need the AMETEK-supplied mounting plate with attached protective pipe nipple. Mount the analyzer to the process as described in the “Mounting the Sensor to the Process”...
Analyzer Flush-to-Process Installation for WDG-V/S Series (Preferred Method) Weld the 7" x 7-5/8" (17.78 cm x 19.37 cm) mounting plate (AMETEK Part No. 70626SE) supplied with the analyzer to the process wall over a 3-3/4" (9.52 cm) diameter hole (Figure 11). Then, bolt the analyzer to the mounting plate. This method positions the analyzer as close to the process as possible and mini- mizes any chance that the sample gas will cool below its dewpoint.
Mount the analyzer to a 3" x 300# customer-supplied flange (Figure 12). In this case, you will not need the AMETEK-supplied mounting plate with attached protective pipe nipple. If you have a different type of flange, AMETEK supplies a number of flange adapters.
3. Wrap the nipple with at least 1" (2.54 cm) weatherproof insulation and heat trace it. 4. Bolt the analyzer to the plate. Figure 13. WDG-V/S Series Analyzer customer-supplied pipe nipple installation. 44 | Thermox ® WDG-V HP Series and WDG-V/S Series Analyzers PN 10686-17-5, Rev A...
1. Weld a customer-supplied 3" x 150# flange and nipple to the top of the duct (Figure 14). 2. Bolt the analyzer assembly in place using AMETEK-supplied hardware and gasket. 3. Wrap the nipple with at least 1" weatherproof insulation around exposed portion.

Purge Connection Options For North American Class I Division 2 and ATEX/IECEx Zone 2 applica- tions, AMETEK provided two purge options. Standard Purge Configuration • Connect instrument air to the analyzer Z-purge inlet (Figure 16). Maintain the pressure and flow as directed on the Z-purge warning label.

Use the T-bar Valve Key to open the Rapid Exchange control Valve fully by turning 90° counter-clockwise, and quickly ensure the Enclosure Protec- tion Vent opens. The Enclosure Pressure Gauge should move quickly off scale to the right. This is normal for all Rapid Exchange purging systems. Observe the system during the exchange time duration (five minutes mini- mum), then close the Rapid Exchange Control Valve fully and ensure the T-bar Valve Key is firmly locked in the Rapid Exchange Control Valve stem.
– note the orientation of the valve. 5. Connect the aspirator air outlet on the RCU to the aspirator air inlet con- nection on the analyzer. 52 | Thermox ® WDG-V HP Series and WDG-V/S Series Analyzers PN 10686-17-5, Rev A...

Combustibles RCU Installation Figure 20 shows mounting dimensions for the combustibles RCU. The ambient temperature range for the RCU is -20° to 70°C. Mount the RCU as close to the analyzer as possible. Shorter calibration plumbing improves response times, reduces calibration gas expense, and reduces the chance of contaminants in the calibration gas plumbing.
