This chapter walks through the process of installing a ATTO SCSI Sidekick and
attaching your SCSI devices to it.

Installation Requirements

To successfully install and use your ATTO SCSI Sidekick you need:
A host computer with a SCSI host adapter
Your complete ATTO SCSI Sidekick package
Two single-ended to single-ended terminators for use with the USUS model or one
single-ended to single-ended terminator and one differential terminator for use
with the UDUS model
SCSI devices conforming to the SCSI-1, SCSI-2, or SCSI-3 standard

Hardware Installation

ATTO SCSI Sidekick will always reside between the host and the SCSI device. Setting
up your ATTO SCSI Sidekick unit will vary depending upon the configuration of the
unit. The two configurations available are Single-Ended to Single-Ended (SIDE-USUS-
EXT) and Differential to Single-Ended (SIDE-UDUS-EXT).
Follow these simple steps to install the ATTO SCSI Sidekick:
1.
Connect the lower connector on the ATTO SCSI Sidekick to the SCSI host adapter.
(If the SCSI host adapter is differential, be sure to connect it to the differential side
of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick.)
2.
Terminate the upper port on the same side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick.
3.
Connect the lower connector on the other side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick to the
SCSI device. (If the SCSI device is differential, be sure to connect it to the
differential side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick.)
4.
Terminate the upper port on the same side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick.
Due to the complications incurred by high data transfer rates, UltraSCSI has cabling
and device limitations. Please refer to appendix D for these limitations. The following
diagrams illustrate ATTO SCSI Sidekick installations in a non-UltraSCSI and an
UltraSCSI environment:
