About This Manual

This user's manual combines why and how things are done. In doing so, installing your
ATTO SCSI Sidekick is quick and easy. This manual is written with the assumption
that you have a working knowledge of SCSI technology.

What is ATTO SCSI Sidekick?

ATTO SCSI Sidekick is an UltraSCSI signal converter, SCSI bus extender, and bus
isolator. It is an operating system (OS) independent device that does not consume a
SCSI ID. This frees all of the SCSI IDs for devices to be connected to your system.
There is no hardware or software configuration on your part. Simply install ATTO SCSI
Sidekick between the host and device(s), terminate the ATTO SCSI Sidekick unit, and
you are ready to work.

SCSI Converter

Differential SCSI has become more popular due to increased SCSI bus noise at high
rates of speed and the ability to significantly increase cable lengths. Single-Ended SCSI
has always been popular due to the availability and the low cost of devices.
ATTO SCSI Sidekick provides the flexibility you need to successfully connect your
single-ended and differential devices to a single host. By using ATTO SCSI Sidekick, a
SCSI host adapter can communicate with a combination of single-ended and differential
SCSI devices on the same SCSI domain.

SCSI Bus Extender

ATTO SCSI Sidekick also serves as a SCSI bus extender providing you with the ability
to extend your SCSI cable lengths. ATTO SCSI Sidekick receives and regenerates the
