SCSI devices on the same SCSI domain. SCSI Bus Extender ATTO SCSI Sidekick also serves as a SCSI bus extender providing you with the ability to extend your SCSI cable lengths. ATTO SCSI Sidekick receives and regenerates the ATTO SCSI Sidekick (USUS/UDUS) User’s Manual...

SCSI Bus Isolator ATTO SCSI Sidekick also has the ability to isolate the SCSI bus. In many workgroup environments, the entire system is forced to shut down to remove a SCSI device. In the event you need to upgrade or remove a device from the system, ATTO SCSI Sidekick allows you to disconnect the device from the host without interruption or downtime.

SCSI ID. This frees all of the SCSI IDs for devices connected to your system. One of the main features of ATTO SCSI Sidekick is that it allows you to combine differential and single-ended devices on a SCSI domain. By segmenting the SCSI bus and regenerating the SCSI signal, you can mix single-ended and differential SCSI devices on a SCSI domain.

SCSI device chain. The devices at both ends of any SCSI chain must be terminated in order for the SCSI bus to function correctly. To terminate your ATTO SCSI Sidekick simply place a terminator on the open port on each side of the unit. Be sure to use a single-ended terminator on the single-ended side of the unit and a differential terminator on the differential side of the unit.

Terminate the upper port on the same side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick. Connect the lower connector on the other side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick to the SCSI device. (If the SCSI device is differential, be sure to connect it to the differential side of the ATTO SCSI Sidekick.)

Notice that the distance between the host computer and ATTO SCSI Sidekick (25 meters for differential interface) is different from the distance between the ATTO SCSI Sidekick and the device (1.5 meters for single-ended interface).

Chapter 3. Improper termination can be the cause of many problems. • Verify that all of the devices attached to the ATTO SCSI Sidekick have unique SCSI IDs. Remember that the ATTO SCSI Sidekick does NOT occupy a SCSI ID.

The equipment described in this manual generates and uses radio frequency energy. If the ATTO SCSI Sidekick is not installed and used properly, that is, in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction, it may cause interference with radio and television reception.

AMPLE ONFIGURATIONS In addition to extended cable lengths, ATTO SCSI Sidekick also expands configuration options by allowing users to: place a "full load" of devices on both sides, mix 8-bit and 16-bit devices, or connect single-ended and differential devices on the same bus.

If you wish to upgrade your storage or a storage device fails and you need to take it off-line, the isolate switch allows you to remove it without disrupting your work.
  • Page 17: Appendix D: Ultrascsi Limitations

Due to the electrical noise incurred with high-speed data transfer rates, UltraSCSI has cabling and device limitations. ATTO SCSI Sidekick was engineered to address this issue. Using a ATTO SCSI Sidekick in your configuration will help eliminate the cabling and device limitations.
