432 Wheels and tires
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
R
ground.
The required tire-change tool kit is available.
R

If your vehicle is not equipped with the tire-
change tool kit, consult a qualified specialist
workshop to find out about suitable tools.
Apply the electric parking brake manually.
#
Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
#
position.
Shift the transmission to position j.
#
Vehicles with AIRMATIC: set the raised vehicle
#
level for greater ground clearance
(
page 271).

Switch off the vehicle.
#
Make sure that the vehicle cannot be started.
#
Place chocks or other suitable items under the
#
front and rear of the wheel that is diagonally
opposite the wheel you wish to change.
Unload the vehicle.

Removing and installing the wheel trim/hub caps
Requirements
The vehicle is prepared for a wheel change
R
(
page 431).

Multi-piece wheel trim
On vehicles with aluminum wheels, the trim parts
may be damaged when the wheel is changed.
Before unscrewing the wheel bolts, remove the
multi-piece wheel trim.
To remove: using both hands, carefully reach
#
into two wheel trim openings and remove the
wheel trim.
To install: place the wheel trim in position and
#
press firmly until it engages.
Raising the vehicle when changing a wheel
Requirements
There are no persons in the vehicle.

The vehicle has been prepared for a wheel
R
change (
page 431).

Important notes on using the jack:
Use only a vehicle-specific jack that has been
R
approved by Mercedes-Benz to raise the vehi-
cle.
The jack is only designed for raising and hold-
R
ing the vehicle for a short time while a wheel
is being changed and not for maintenance
work under the vehicle.
The jack must be placed on a firm, flat and
R
non-slip surface. If necessary, use a large, flat,
load-bearing, non-slip underlay.
The foot of the jack must be positioned verti-
R
cally under the jack support point.
